Go to google.com/business and sign in
Use a Google (Gmail) account — make a free one if you don't have it. Go to google.com/business and click "Manage now."
Enter your business name
Type your business name. If it already shows up, claim it. If not, create it fresh.
Choose your category
Pick what you do — barber, hair salon, restaurant, auto detailing, and so on. This is what makes you show up when someone searches. Pick the closest fit; you can add more categories later.
Add your location — or your service area
If customers come to you, add your address so you appear on the map. If you go to them (mobile barber, detailer, food vendor), set a service area instead — and you can keep your home address hidden.
Add your phone and website
Put your best contact number and a website link. No website? Your CCR business listing works perfectly here.
Verify your business
Google confirms you're real before you go live. Most often they mail a postcard with a code to your address — it takes about a week. Sometimes it's by phone, email, or a quick video instead.
This is the step those callers act like is some big mystery. It's not. When the code arrives, type it in, and you're verified.
Fill out the whole profile
Add your hours, the services you offer, and a short description of what makes you good. The more complete it is, the higher Google ranks you.
Add photos — this one matters most
Add your storefront, your work, your products, and a shot of you. Businesses with photos get far more clicks and calls than ones without. Don't skip this.
Ask happy customers for reviews
Reviews push you up in search and build trust fast. After a good job, just ask: "Mind leaving me a quick Google review?" A handful of real reviews goes a long way.
Keep it fresh
Update your hours around holidays, post the occasional update, and reply to reviews — even the tough ones. An active profile beats a stale one every time.
Pro tips that put you ahead
- Match everything: use the exact same business name, address, and phone on Google, on CCR, and everywhere else. Google trusts consistency.
- Work a keyword in: in your description, name what you do and where — "South suburbs barber specializing in fades and beard work."
- Reply to every review: a thank-you on the good ones and a calm response on the bad ones shows you're on top of your business.
Did it on Google? Now do it close to home.
Once you're on Google, list on CCR so your own neighbors find you first.
